Today, we checked out the Lakewood Dog Park and we got the SCOOP. No, we didn’t get the scoop your thinking of but rather we sniffed out all the details to do an exposé on Leander’s newest dog park.
Lakewood Dog Park is located east of 183A off of Crystal Falls Pkwy nestled in the Crystal Springs neighborhood. Upon entering Lakewood Park, you are greeted with trees and plush views of Central Texas’ natural foliage. On the way to the dog park, you will drive alongside a lake with a fishing pier and kayak dock, pass basketball courts, volleyball courts and a skate park. When parking, it is not immediately clear where the dog park is. Once we got out of the car, the entrance was clearly visible and only a quaint walk away.
Walking up to the dog park I was impressed with the set up. A simple concrete sign with 2 dog silhouettes, flanked by a giant tree and further back three dog parks.
The smallest of the dog parks, yet still rather large, was for the smaller dogs (I’m sure Lemon took offense) and had stone benches throughout and three doggy potty stations. Some other amenities were a fountain for humans and dogs alike as well as a water bottle refill station. A small track goes around the dog park; perfect for those, like myself, trying to get in their daily steps.
The second and third dog parks for the larger dogs, are pretty expansive. They have the same amenities as the first dog park such as the potty stations and fountains, but throw a few extras in such as picnic tables and baskets with dog toys. They also both have larger tracks that take you around the dog park and the benches are placed throughout under the more shaded areas. Since this is a rather new park, the trees are not fully grown yet they already provide lots of shade. I can only imagine as they grow how thankful us dog park patrons will be to have ample shade in the Texas summers.
Lakewood Dog park definitely gets 4 paws. They get one paw for having well cleaned and maintained enclosures. The second and third paw are for maintaining our pups safety with the separate enclosures for different sized dogs and also the various amenities like fountains and potty stations. The fourth paw is for the overall ambience including maintaining the natural surroundings, providing shaded sitting and walking areas and being located right next to Lakewood Park which has many nice walking trails for post dog park fun!
So what's the scoop? Is Lakewood Dog park worthy of an exposé or should it be scooped right into the dog potty station? Lakewood dog park is definitely worth the time for this exposé and many many future visits. I would say this dog park is one of the premier dog parks in the Leander/ Cedar Park/ Georgetown and Liberty Hill areas. The bar has been set high by Lakewood dog park and we cant wait to explore the others in the area to get the scoop!
